In order to gain trust with everyone we meet, it’s essential that we establish good communication. There are basic needs people have that are common to all regarding contact with another person.
There is the need to know who we are. Initially we must give our name. Then, if they don’t already know, they want to know what we do. This could be our title, where we work, or specific role we play. Next, they would like to know what brings us here. We should identify the reason we are talking with them. Lastly, they want to know whether we are asking anything of them. In other words, do we need them to do anything?
This sounds like a lot of information to impart, until we learn that a simple greeting can cover all these needs, and begin the conversation with the basic needs of the person met. We will share an example of this greeting in the next post.
